ayur1There is an unbroken tradition of Ayurveda found in Kerala that has surpassed through generations and has survived through many invasions from foreign lands as well as from native. Somehow this makes the state a unique one for keeping Ayurveda as intact as it was hundreds of years ago. Ayurveda was the only means of healing from any kind of diseases which was conducted by the practitioners of Ayurveda for hundreds of years before the advent of science and consequently the introduction of modern medicines. It is therefore said that the only in Kerala the status of Ayurveda is mainstream.

One might wonder how come only in Kerala the story of Ayurveda was successful. Well, the temperature of the place is such that the right amount of moisture and the warmth let the medicinal plant find the ideal place to work at their best. Also due to the topography of the place the abundance of the Ayurvedic plants are to be seen through the year providing for the continuity and consistency of the Ayurvedic medicines that are needed for the effective treatment procedures.

Ayurveda is related to the five main elements of the earth which are water, fire, earth, air and sky. Ayurveda knowledge considers the human body to be the universe and is subdivided according to these five elements.

Some of the very important medical help for which Ayurveda is famous are as follows:
