Shri Aurobindo Ashram

Shri Aurobindo Ashram is a spiritual community that follows the spiritual idea of their late guru Sri Aurobindo who after giving up politics settled in calm atmosphere of Pondicherry to share his idea and experience. Ashram is home to his followers and it was established in 1926 after Sri Aurobindo had great spiritual realization and worked freely to transform spiritual realm and understanding. His spiritual collaborator Mira Alfassa is credited with the expansion and creation of Universal Township which is considered as aim of late spiritual Guru.

Early history

With realization of inner ideas, Sri Aurobindo started going deep into spiritual ideas and started informal routine. He had Mother and French Writer Paul Richard to help him but with an outbreak of Second World War, they had to travel back but arrived soon after its end. Ashram was given a formal shape in 1926 but soon it began growing as people from other community joined the leadership and by 1934 it had around 150 members. With passage of time, many departments came up and soon spiritual realization became habit of the community living in Ashram.

Aims and ideas

Ashram today works to create greater spiritual responsibilities and realization, the creation of Auroville is an instance of how they work and how they believe in spiritual guidance of Sri Aurobindo Ghosh.
