Most of the part of this range comes under the Meppady Forest Division of Wayanad district with some parts falling in Thamarassery Forest Range of Kozhikode district. The Scintillating waterfalls, luscious green landscapes and unanimous beautiful setting of this place makes a must visit site while on your tour to Kozhikode district. It is a part of the Western Ghats mountain range and is popularly known as the ‘camel’s Hump Mountain’ owing to its look which is similar to the hump of a camel.
Olichuchattam Waterfall: The first trekking point for the trekkers venturing to the top of the Vellari Mala range, Olichuchattam Waterfall is a beautiful waterfall adorned with luscious greenery and picturesque landscape all over. The roaring sound of this fall, chirping of the birds and the branching of the trees from one point to another is sure to energize and rejuvenate you for advancing forward on your journey. It is positioned at a distance of 6 km from Muthappanpuzha which is the starting point for trekkers.

You have to start your trek from Muthappanpuzha which is 3 km away abroad from Anakkampoyil. While enjoying this difficult trek you can relax in various places including Swargamkunnu, Masthakappara, Damodaran Kolli and Kanjippara.
After reaching the scenic Olichuchattam Waterfall which is 6 km from Muthappanpuzha you have relish another 9 km of trekking to reach the top of the Vellari Mala range. River Kanjirapuzha, a tributary of the River Chaliyar, meanders through the rocky terrain, creating cascades and breathtaking waterfalls at many points.
